The first issue revenue stamps (R1 to R102) were used to pay taxes on documents and proprietary
items inclkuding playing cards. Until 1862 they could only be used to tax
othe item on the face. After
1862, stamps except proprietary could be used indiscriminately. Stamps from 1 cent ot 25 cents are
