U.S. Revenue Stamps
RH - Cigarette Tube Stamps
RI - Potato Tax Stamps
RJ - Tobacco Sale Tax
Cigarette Tube Stamps were a tax on hollow tubes of cigarette paper. They were sold so
customers could add loose tobacco to make cigarettes.
Potato Tax Stamps were used to tax growers who exceeded their allotment of potato
production. The tax was in effect from Dec. 1, 1935 to Feb. 10, 1936 when the act
was ruled unconstitutional. Because of short duration, they were never used.
Tobacco Sale Tax Stamps were used to tax growers who exceeded their allotment of tobacco
production. The tax was stopped in 1936 after the Act was declared unconstitutional.
