The 'Maritime & Newfoundland Airways" stamps listed below were planned to operate, but were refused permission by postal authorities to issue special stamps for its fights. Despite this, they had stamps printed by A. C. Roessler and offered them for sale to the public. Continued negotiations with the postal authorities resulted in a special flight being postponed. In August 1931, a plane left North Sydney with about 4000 covers. The authorization was never granted and the covers were with a handstamped explanation on the reverse, signed by J. R. McGowan.
